Take Your Health Back

Most new years resolutions include fitness goals. A lot of people want to lose some extra pounds or eat healthier, but they fail to stick with it. It is proven that most people abandon their new years resolutions around February.

Show the world that you are different. Prove to yourself that you can stay committed, you are determined and you will reach your goals. If you want to see results bad enough, you have to put in the work.

How I Felt In December 2021

I was the heaviest I have ever been in my entire life. I have always been pretty small, but life got stressful and I started eating more and turning to comfort food most days. I hated looking in the mirror and the way that I looked in pictures. I finally decided it was time to make a change. I needed to lose weight but didn’t know where to start. I had tried some fad diets and diet pills that claim to burn fat and lose weight that never worked.

I Didn’t Know Where To Start

So I thought that I would ask for help from someone who would know what to do. I have a friend who is a personal trainer so I hired her to help me get started. I work out with her twice a week and she helps me create a plan to workout on my own throughout the week as well. I never had a solid workout routine. Throughout high school I was a dancer, so that kept me in shape and in college I was pretty active as well and never really gained much weight. I never really had to go to the gym. This was new territory for me. But once I learned how to use different machines and proper form. I love having a solid workout routine and look forward to going to the gym.

Nutrition

My diet was not the best. It consisted of fast food and whatever was available to me. My relationship with food has never really been the best. I have dealt with body image issues since high school and it has always been hard for me to fully love the way I look. My trainer has also helped me with my diet. She has taught me how to read labels and what to look for and what to stay away from. I track my calories on a daily basis just to make sure I am not eating more than what is necessary. Before I started this weight loss journey I would binge eat all the time. Which would make me even more hungry and was this endless cycle. Now I have learned to pause, listen to my body and know when to stop eating when I am full and when to eat when I am hungry, instead of mindlessly snacking.

Take The First Step

If you are in a similar situation and want to take your health back, here is my advice to you:

Take it one day at a time

The number on the scale isn’t going to change in a day. It takes time. Stay consistent. Don’t think of it as “I have so much weight to lose” or “I am so far from my goal” think of it as “I am one day closer to my goal.”

Stay consistent

Work out regularly and eat healthy on a daily basis. (It is ok to have a cheat meal every now and then.) Good things take time. The more you stay consistent, the better and sooner your results will be.

Give yourself grace

We are our own worst critics. We are the hardest on ourselves. So that means that it will take longer for you to see results personally, because you look at yourself every day. But other people will start to notice a difference and it feels really good to have that reassurance from others that you are moving in the right direction. Do not be so hard on yourself and know that you are doing everything you can.

If you are thinking about getting a personal trainer, I highly recommend it if you can afford it. The accountability is so helpful and the guidance in workouts and nutrition is so worth it. I do not think I would be as successful as I am now without my trainer.

Weight loss is difficult. Especially when it is new and you have never really had to lose weight before. Every body is so different and we all need different things. Learn to listen to your body and stay consistent and you will be successful.
