When I saw the title of this book, I immediately knew that I had to read it. Lipstick and Jesus are the main essentials of my life. I could already tell that this book was going to be relatable and insightful before I even opened it. The Lipstick Gospel by Stephanie May Wilson is truly inspiring. Here are my takeaways.
The College Sorority Girl
Stephanie was your basic college sorority girl. She would get dressed up and go out with her girlfriends and party it up, just like every other college girl. She lived a normal college girl life. She went to class, hung out with friends and made the most of her college experience.
I related to her a lot, in just the fact that she was a college girl. She liked to have fun and hang out with friends. She was hard working and tried to enjoy every moment of life. That is the life that I am trying to live as well. I try to make the most out of every situation and keep a positive mindset on life. I like to go out and have fun with my friends whenever possible.
Falling In Love
We are all looking for love, for someone to spend our life with. Stephanie found a man that she was head over heels for. She was falling in love and life was great. She enjoyed every minute spent with him. She was falling hard and fast, thankful for the relationship she had.
I have also had relationships that were so fun and so easy. I have been in relationships where I had started to really fall for them. I was so happy and so thankful for that person. I could really see them in my life and was looking forward to continuing the relationship and building a future with them, just like Stephanie, I was falling.
Heartbreak
Stephanie got her heart broken, out of the blue. He decided he did not want to continue the relationship. She was heartbroken and angry. She felt like her life was now falling apart. She did not know what to do. She did not want to live her life without him in it.
Heartbreak is very difficult and an indescribable feeling. I can feel her pain and relate to her. I have been broken up with out of the blue, as well. When it was least expected, I was dumped. I wanted him in my life. I would have given anything to give him one more hug and kiss his lips one more time. I was angry and wanted answers, just like Stephanie, I was angry and upset. Heartbroken was the only way to feel.
The Christian Stereotype
Stephanie saw Christians as the stereotype, goodie two shoes, Jesus sandal wearing people trying to be perfect and holding hands singing kumbaya. She did not want anything to do with it, but she respected her Christian friends. However, that was not a lifestyle she was interested in.
Traveling
She decided to study abroad, so she packed her bags and moved to Spain. Not knowing who would be going with her, she quickly found out that two of her friends would be joining her on her adventure abroad. Spain was her game changer. She enjoyed every minute exploring a new city with her friends. Finding new coffee shops and the perfect cappuccino.
Her friends that she was studying abroad with were Christians, but they did not live like the stereotypical Christians that Stephanie believed. They were normal girls. They were funny and kind and knew how to have a good time. They showed Stephanie what life as a Christian was really like and managed to change her perspective. Because of her new adventures in Spain and her friends, Stephanie decided to give her life to Christ and became a Christian.
Living The Christian Lifestyle
There were parts of the Christian lifestyle that Stephanie knew would be difficult and some she didn’t understand. One of those things was sex. She never saw it as a sin, she just thought it was a normal. Her friends told her about the Christian views of sex and the value of abstinence in the Christian lifestyle. Stephanie was understanding and willing to live the Christian lifestyle and make the necessary changes in her life to live a more positive life and start living for God and spread his light.
The Christian lifestyle is something that I value in my own life. I live for God and work to spread his love and light to others on a daily basis. I work to live a positive life and bring joy to others. It is hard at times, but I know I am not alone and that everything will work according to God’s plan, as long as I stay faithful.
Healing From Heartbreak
Through God, Stephanie was able to heal from her heartbreak and realize that God has a bigger and better plan for her life. She was starting to understand why God puts us through certain situations, why he puts people in our life and why he takes them away. We are meant to learn lessons and some people are meant to be in our life for only a season. Heartbreak is difficult to heal from and she was having a hard time, but deep down, she knew there was a reason for it.
Giving All To God
Stephanie was reluctant to give her all to God. She still wanted to have some control of her life. She was willing to give some aspects of her life to God, but not all. She was afraid to give her all. Eventually she realized that God’s plan was better than her own and gave everything to him. She gave it all to God.
This book was so relatable and so inspiring. I have gone through many of the same experiences as Stephanie, and it was so reassuring to know that I am not alone. Life is hard for everyone. We all struggle. We all want to be loved and we all go through heartbreak, but we are all loved by God, we just have to be willing to accept it.
Grab your coffee and swipe on your lipstick and be ready to feel God working in your life when you read The Lipstick Gospel because you are never alone.
