My April Reads

I have recently fallen in love with books. As an English major in college, you would think that I am a reader by nature. This is not the case. I could never really find books that I was interested in that really captured my attention. Maybe there were one or two here and there, but there was never a consistent flow of books that I was constantly excited to read. However, now with the coronavirus going around, I have needed to find ways to occupy my time and I have chosen to do some research and pick up a few books. Thanks to the help of friends for recommendations and the help of google, I bought a ton of books that I have been excited to read. These are the books that I read during the month of April that I could not put down.

The Distance Between Us

The Distance Between Us is a young adult novel by Kasie West. This is a cute story about a young girl named Caymen Meyers who lives in a tiny apartment with her mother who owns a doll shop and Caymen works the cash register. She was always taught that the rich are not to be trusted. Until one day Xander Spence, tall, handsome and very rich, walks into her shop picking up a doll for his grandmother, and ultimately confuses Caymen on what she was taught all her life and what she is learning about Xander.

Girl In Pieces

Girl In Pieces by Kathleen Glasgow is about a girl named Charlotte Davis. She has lost more than most people have at the age of seventeen, causing her mental health to spiral downward for the worst. The story starts with her time in the mental hospital. She is so traumatized by her past that she chooses to go mute. You learn about her past and what has caused her to get to where she is now. Eventually, she is released but left to build her life on her own. Will she be able to get better and start her life over? Or will she revert back to her old ways?

The Fill-In Boyfriend

The Fill-In Boyfriend is another novel by Kasie West about high school girl Gia Montgomery who gets dumped by her college boyfriend Bradley in the parking lot before her prom. She has to think fast, not wanting to walk in alone. She spots a cute guy waiting for his sister in the parking lot, she asks for a favor to be her date just for the night and they could go there separate ways. He hesitantly agrees, and the plan runs smoothly. After the prom, it is not Bradley that Gia is hung up on. Can she keep up with her lie after the prom? Does she actually have feelings for her fake boyfriend?

I have found that my ideal genre is YA books. I am a sucker for a cute, cheesy romance story or stories I can really relate to as a young adult myself. After you find your favorite genre, you will be tempted to pick up books one after another.

While I encourage you to support your local book stores, I have also found a new website where you can order books for an amazing discounted price! It is called BookOutlet. They have tons of books that you can browse or search specific titles to get them for a better price than you would on Amazon or Target.
