As a Christian, it can be hard to determine whether or not you should celebrate Halloween or partake in any of the activities. It seems like it is a holiday that worships the devil and brings evil spirits. Some people are really against Halloween, and some love it, it just depends on who you are and what you believe. Everyone has a right to their beliefs and should have the freedom to celebrate or not celebrate as they with.
If you are a Christian and enjoy Halloween but are unsure of how you should celebrate the holiday, here are some ideas.
Opportunity To Share Your Faith
Halloween gives you the perfect opportunity to share your faith with others. It may feel like an evil holiday and like it is a sin to celebrate. Teach others about God’s goodness and Satan’s temptation and how Halloween can be a time to fall into darkness and sin, but if they follow Jesus, they will not fall into that darkness as easily, and that they always have God by their side, no matter what they have done, no sin is too big or too small for God to forgive you.
Do Not Give Into Temptation
When everyone is getting into the spooky spirit, it is easy to want to follow along and do the same as well. You might want to play with that Ouija board or talk to evil spirits or other crazy and spooky Halloween activities. However, I encourage you not to give into that temptation and remove yourself from any situations that you may be uncomfortable in. Do not give into temptation and do not give into peer pressure of others, even if they are your friends.
“And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.’” – Matthew 6:13
Do Not Conform
Do not do something just because others are doing it. Do not conform to society. You should be able to think for yourself and do what you want and what you believe is the right thing to do. If the people you are with try to tell you “everyone is doing it” do not give into this temptation if you are uncomfortable. You do not have to do what the rest of society is doing just because “everyone is doing it.”
“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” – Romans 12:2
Keep It Simple
There are many simple and small Halloween activities that you can do that do not involve spooky spirits or Ouija boards. You can do things like pumpkin carving or watching scary movies or baking fall goodies. There are a lot of things that you can do that still get you in the fall spirit and enjoy the season.
Hand Out Candy
If you live in a neighborhood, then buy a bunch of candy and turn your porch lights on and hand out candy to the kids that knock on your door that are all dressed up as their favorite characters. This is a fun thing to do and you get to see all of the cute kids that come to your door.
Have Fun
Dress up in a fun costume and get a group of your friends to hang out. Bake a lot of Halloween treats and buy a bunch of candy and enjoy time with friends and hand out candy to the trick or treaters. You can still do the fun things on Halloween.
During this season it is important to stay grounded and reminded of your faith. Remember to continue to shine God’s light, especially during the dark times and stay strong. Do not conform to society or give into temptation. Have fun and enjoy the simple things that this season brings.
