*some small spoilers ahead
Wildfire marks the highly anticipated second book in Hannah Grace’s Maple Hills series, and if you loved her first book Icebreaker, you are in for an even more exciting ride with this latest addition.
In this thrilling sequel, we dive deeper into the lives of the residents of Maple Hills. One of the standout characters from Icebreaker, Russ, takes center stage in Wildfire. Everyone grew fond of him during his time on the hockey team alongside Nate, now we get a chance to explore his character in greater depth. Russ’s journey is both intriguing and heartwarming, showcasing his growth and development beyond the ice rink.
However, what truly ignites the pages of Wildfire is the introduction of a brand-new character, Aurora. She brings a fresh and exciting dynamic to Maple Hills. As Aurora steps onto the scene, we are treated to a whirlwind of emotions and experiences as she and Russ meet for the very first time. Their initial encounter sets the stage for a captivating and unpredictable relationship that unfolds throughout the book.
One Night Stand
The book starts out with a one night stand when Russ and Aurora meet for the first time, but little do they know they will meet again over the summer. Their initial meeting is charged with an undeniable chemistry, leaving both of them with lingering thoughts and emotions they hadn’t anticipated.
Forced Proximity
The forced proximity trope is one of my all-time favorites and it takes place in this book. Russ and Aurora end up working at the same summer camp and are forced to work together after their last encounter. Awkward. But you can imagine what happens next, or you can read the book to find out.
Forbidden Love
Not only are they forced to work together, but the camp they are working at has a no-counselor fraternization rule. Meaning no relationships other than strict coworker relationships. No romantic relationships whatsoever. Do they follow the rules?
Relatable
I loved how relatable this book was with the big and little things. It brings up relationship struggles, past trauma and family struggles that it seems anyone can relate to on some level. It also brings up some real questions and fears when it comes to getting into a relationship that everyone has at some point in their lifetime and addresses real-world problems making the story more relatable.
Character Development
Throughout this book, Russ and Aurora really grow as people and find their true selves, and grow into the people they are meant to be. I hope you fall in love with Russ and Aurora as much as I did.
